I suppose having started this thing off I should contribute.
I operate two limited companies based in Thanet although operating throughout Europe and beyond within the marine industry, yachts and small craft up to the superyachts and small commercial vessels such as trawlers etc.
This is a second career having spent 22 years in the Police force in Kent. My wife has had her own business since 1976 and I was always involved in running her various businesses even though on paper being a police office I was not allowed to have any business interest. Times have changed now.
Over the years we have had our successes and we have had our failures, although our core businesses have been and remain very successful.
We have had a shop which we had to close down as it made no money. We also had a nursery school which we ran for 15 years. Unfortunately due to being located in a depressed area with high unemployment and Government intervention over nursery places stopped making money. We therefore closed it down making about 10 staff redundant. Not nice but necessary for our own survival.
So there you have it quite a bit of business experience some good, some bad. I certainly do NOT know it all by a long way but I can certainly say I have tried. Victor Kiam always said "You show me a businessman (woman) who has not failed and I will show you one who hasn't tried."
